Lots of fun was had by the children from Saffron Walden and surrounding areas who participated in an exciting photographic event organised by Arts in Essex scheme on Friday 4th of June 2010.
The event brought together children from different ethnic backgrounds all eager to explore, learn and have fun whilst discovering the town with photographic cameras.
The journey began with an introduction to the history of Saffron Walden town itself and was presented by the manager of Saffron Walden Tourist Office. He shared the town’s secrets and answered some most difficult questions, revealing that the name: Saffron Walden comes from saffron crocuses used in the production of saffron spice and the word ‘Walden’ means ‘a valley’.
A photographer was the second stop on the journey. This expert introduced participants to the five golden rules of photography. This was very useful information especially for anyone who wishes to take a good photograph. After that, all the children equipped with maps and cameras spread out in different directions to catch their own view of the town.

Saffron Walden Museum that celebrated its 175th Anniversary.
Yet, the most exciting moment came when the young participants had to make their albums using their own photos. They used lots of creativity and tons of glitter, glue, colourful papers, ribbons and anything else that they could find at the work stations.
The effect of their work was soon visible: 17 wonderfully decorated albums that were all superb and allowed us to see the town through the eyes of the children.
Members of the public enjoyed the display of albums in Saffron Walden Library from the 7th of June to 3rd of July 2010. In addition, the two most interesting albums were presented at the display in the Tourist Information Centre and were published in the July edition of Saffron Walden magazine.
