We are built on community spirit
REVI (Real & Enthusiastic Voice of Integration) is a registered charity set up to promote the benefit of the ethnic minorities in Essex and Hertfordshire with a view to enabling them to integrate into their communities by:
- the advancement of education, including language classes and their culture and heritage
- the preservation and protection of good health including providing support and advice
- the provision of recreational facilities in the interests of social welfare with the object of improving their conditions of life.
ReVi comes from Esperanto (an artificial language) and means 'a dream'. ReVi also stands for 'Real & Enthusiastic Voice of Integration'.
During the Summer of 2007 several independent initiatives dedicated to migrant workers started at the same time.
In Braintree there was the 'Orzelek' children's theatre group run by Stan Forczek. There was also the 'Aerobics studio' run by Lidia Oramus and Ewelina Zjawiona. In Saffron Walden there was the Polish Club run by Iwona Cetin. Also in September 2007 the new migrant workers project that covered Braintree District, Uttlesford District and East Hertfordshire started.
The project employed three community development workers (Anna Szwagiel, Malgorzata Strona and Monika Wodecka) who received a few difficult tasks like: identifying the needs of migrant communities or identifying the biggest migrant community and making it self-sustainable. During the Autumn, all those people finally met and started to work together!
The group decided to choose a name and after several long and deep discussions the name was chosen: ReVi.
On 13th March 2008 the group signed its constitution and set up a bank account. Since then ReVi has participated in / organised many events all over Essex. Here’s an overview.
