Talk on Poland

Where: The Hawthorns, Braintree
A “Talk on Poland” focussing on the Lesser Poland Region was presented at “The Hawthorns Retirement Village” on the 13thJuly 2018. The main speaker was Tomasz Plasewicz and assisted by Renia Daynes and Anna Chodecka-Piórko.
The presentation consisted of a series of slides containing eye catching images which depicted the most important areas of this region all accompanied by a short description.
- It began with Kraków and its most popular attractions: Wawel Castle, Sukiennice and St Mary’s Basilica
- Then we moved on to introduce the world renowned salt mine in Wieliczka
- From there a short digital stroll around the Polish highlands reaching the most beautiful and charming town of the Polish Tatra mountains – Zakopane
- The presentation would not have been complete without visiting Częstochowa, Poland’s religious centre
- Nor without illustrating the beauty of Poland’s nature and its national parks: Ojcowski, Pieninski and Tatra Park along with the local attractions on offer, boat rides down the river Dunajec or a cable car ride to the top of the Kasprowy Wierch mountain
- There was also mention of the very popular winter sports in the south of Poland, along with Poland’s stars of ski jumping and cross country skiing
- The presentation concluded with showcasing Poland’s natural spas
The whole event lasted around 40 minutes and the group of residents who attended, which was in excess of 30 in total, were extremely interested as there were numerous questions afterwards.
